Mellon grants $1 Million each in support of imaginative leaders. Marissa Wolf (Portland Center Stage, OR), Robert Barry Fleming (Actors Theatre, Louisville, KY), and Jacob Padrón (Long Wharf Theatre, New Haven, CT) all have proven track records "in the ways that they advocate for their theaters, their communities, and the ways that they use their platforms for local artists and the national conversation." $10 million donation will eliminate rental fees for producing theatre companies at Off-Broadway’s 59E59. The gift from the Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation "shatters one of the many financial barriers to emerging companies presenting new works, opening our doors to diverse voices and innovative productions that might otherwise not be seen.” (playbill.com)
The Motus Wildlife Tracking System receives a $3.1 Million investment from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI). “This will give us the ability to track and monitor migratory animals throughout their lives ensuring we have more scientific evidence available to inform conservation decisions,” says Stuart Mackenzie, director of strategic assets with Birds Canada.
